EN - The redesign of a public space with a historical stratigraphy made up of events, upheavals, changes and important and still rooted realities such as that of Porta Venezia and Piazza Oberdan presents complex challenges and multiple possibilities for intervention; for this reason, designing a space for the use and representation of the whole community - in its diversity - generates debates and great controversies. During the design process, therefore, the study of pedestrian paths was decisive, the study of the current criticalities that make this a place made up of mere residual spaces, which helped us to establish the full and empty spaces of this new urban space, the rest stops, those in transit, the green ones and the more sheltered ones. The other decisive element was the presence of the Diurno in the western part of the square: it is on this side that the intervention was designed so as to bring to light the main hall of the historic complex, making it free and visible on three sides. The new building, which develops longitudinally across the north-west part of the square, is characterized by two levels dedicated to the sale of design objects, and a third level, basement, which houses a co-working laboratory for emerging designers. The ultimate goal was to be able to fully relate the different levels, up to the mezzanine level, which runs under Corso Buenos Aires, made interesting through the installation of spaces dedicated to the display of objects conceived by Milanese designers from the fifties to today.
